Hullo and welcome to this week's edition of Mystery Fabric.
I found 3 meters of Prince of Wales check at a thrift shop last August, washed it and filed it under nice, might come in handy someday and forgot about it until I saw this jumpsuit by
Francesco Scognamiglio.
I am, forever, trying to make clothes I can wear everyday and failing miserably, but a jumpsuit is something I could wear in real life so I ironed the fabric, which I thought was 100% wool, but it isn't because I gave it a big heavy steam treatment and it didn't smell anything like wool. I don't know what that smell is, I did a burn test and it does act like a natural fiber but I can't tell what it is. Alpaca? Cashmere? Lama? It's weighty, it drapes wonderfully, it feels really good on the skin, it doesn't itch, it hardly shrank when I washed it. Here is a close up of the selvage and tiny soft spun worsted.
If any of you know what this might be, that'd be cool, in the meantime, I'll try to decide whether I might be better off with a lightweight jeans jumpsuit instead of a lightweight Prince of Wales.
Summer is coming isn't it?
