The Nag / Mon Tourment

I'm sewing a lot. 

If you've been following my Instagram or my Twitter feeds, you know I am sewing for other people, but it's got nothing to do with clothing construction so I don't talk about it. The only tidbit of sewing I have to report is I pulled out this sweater refashion from last year to see if I should salvage it of throw it out. 

It's been nagging me! Not only I've seen quite a few knitted bomber jackets, but I have also found a solution to finish it and so it's talking to me: 

     - Finish me, finish me, you won't start anything before you finish me and spring is coming and I know you want to start on that dress but you will finish me first.

The good girl in me is saying : 

     - You should really finish this it'll be perfect for spring,

The bad girl is saying :  

     - It can wait another year who cares! Make that dress!

Last week, to assuage the good girl, I sewed the collar I painstakingly unpicked last year to it's new location, but the sun came out and the bad girl is screaming:

   - Make the dress, now!

This soliloquy is driving me nuts!

Je couds beaucoup. 

Si vous suivez mes gazouillis sur Instagram ou Twitter, vous savez que je couds pour d'autres gens, mais pas de vêtements alors je n'en parle pas ici. La seule chose que j'ai fait récemment, c'est que j'ai sorti ce vieux truc commencé l'an dernier qui me nargue. Je jette ou je garde?

Il me tourmente! Non seulement je vois beaucoup de blouson tricotés mais j'ai trouvé la solution pour le finir alors il me parle : 

    - Finis-moi! Finis-moi! Tu ne pourras pas commencer autre chose avant de m'avoir fini, je sais que tu veux commencer cette robe mais tu vas me terminer avant!

La gentille fille en moi se dit : 

     - Tu devrais le finir, ça va être parfait pour le printemps, 

Et la mauvaise fille dit : 

     - Pft! ça peut attendre une année de plus, fait ta robe.

La semaine dernière, pour apaiser la gentille fille, j'ai rattaché le col, que j'avais méticuleusement décousu l'an dernier, dans sa nouvelle position puis le soleil est apparu et la mauvaise fille me crie : 

     - Fais ta robe, maintenant!

Ce soliloque me rend folle!

New Digs! / Nouvelle Piaule!

You are so going to tell me it's about time! And I am so going to say yes!

I announced last year that Dibs and I were working on a new blog design and I only put it up yesterday! But, I'm not going to apologize for both of us being busy and having too much fun! 

It's not quite finished but we are on our way. 

I'm also tinkering on a new dress for this summer. It's a mash up of several patterns, I just hope it's not going to take me a year to work this one out!

Je vous ai annoncé l'année dernière que Dibs et moi travaillions sur un nouveau design pour le blog et je l'ai mis en ligne hier seulement! Mais je ne vais pas nous excuser d'avoir eu trop de fun!

C'est pas tout à fait fini mais presque.

Je bidouille aussi une nouvelle robe pour cet été. C'est un mix de plusieurs patrons, j'espère juste que ça ne me prendra pas un an pour la réaliser!

Renfrew N°2 The Hack / Version Pirate

My second Renfrew is a hack. 

I have had this acrylic knit fabric for a while, I really liked the colors when I bought it but I don't like the feel on my skin. The solution came from an old reversible hoodie I have, the finish of which I really liked.

What we are making here is a lined t-shirt with a Hong Kong finish. You don't need a Renfrew to do this, your TNT t-shirt pattern will do the trick. You need to be familiar with bagging techniques especially the part where you attach the sleeve to the lining as you will have to do this 3 times. (There are several tutorial online, in my opinion, the clearest is Sewaholic's). I added 2" to the sleeves and bottom to make up for the lost cuffs and hip band to the shell and because my serger was set to do 4 threads 1/4" seams, I added 2 1/4" to the lining's cuffs and hip band and 1/4" to the collar. 

This is a picture heavy post, it was much easier to show you how it's done this way.

J'ai piraté mon 2ème Renfrew! 

J'avais ce tricot acrylique dont j'adorais les couleurs mais pas la sensation sur la peau. J'ai trouvé la solution sur un vieux t-shirt réversible du commerce dont j'adorais la finition.

Nous allons faire un t-shirt doublé aux finitions Hong Kong. Vous pouvez faire ça à n'importe lequel patron préféré. Vous devez être familière avec la technique du montage en fourreau, particulièrement la partie des manches car vous devrez faire cette opération 3 fois. (Il y a plusieurs tutos mais celui de Sewaholic est le plus explicite bien qu'en anglais). J'ai ajouté 5cm aux manches et au bas à la couche extérieur en remplacement des bandes des poignets et des hanches et 5,5cm aux manches, au bas et 0,5cm au col de la doublure parce que j'ai choisi un surjet 4 fils de 0,5cm pour l'assemblage.

Attention, il y a beaucoup de photos, c'est plus facile à expliquer.

Don't forget to leave an opening in one of the sleeves for the bagging.

N'oubliez pas de laisser une ouverture pour la construction en fourreau.

Turn right side out and pin the collar and sleeves shell to the lining at the seams. Make sure your sleeves are not twisted. Put your hand through the opening and reach for your collar.

Retournez votre ouvrage sur l'endroit, épinglez les pièces du col et des manches à la couture en prenant soin de vérifier que la doublure des manches est bien droite. Entrez votre main dans l'ouverture de la manche et prenez le col.

You could stitch in the ditch if you wanted to, I didn't my copy shirt didn't have any. The only thing I did was to make a small tack at the top of the shoulder so the lining didn't twist and turn in the wash.
So there, I am very in love with this shirt and wear it all the time. This is a winner!

Vous pourriez piquer dans la couture si vous voulez. Je ne l'ai pas fait, le t-shirt copié n'en avait pas. Mais avant de refermer la manche, j'ai fait un petit point dans les coutures d'épaules avant de refermer pour que la doublure ne tourne pas au lavage.
Voilà, je l'adore et je le porte tout le temps. C'est winner!
