Jil Sander Inspired

Leave it to me to start a productivity project on a week when Jr C has a 4 day weekend!

I did manage to work on most of what I cut on Monday and finish some of it. All of them are bags : 2 are VeryPurplePerson Reversible, 1 is a jean version of my blue bag and 3 are inspired by Jil Sander's Market Bag.

I hung out for so long on Jil Sander's site looking at that dress that I also saw the rest of her stuff, including her Market Bag which, I find, is an incredibly clever way of finding beauty in ubiquity.

I made the first ones out of this promotional flag that was slated for the waste bin. They are huge, more supermarket huge then market huge. Actually, they are pretty useful for transporting beer, but they are crude and lack elegance, so I made a smaller one which I lined because I thought it would be prettier.

It is pretty, but quite bulky in the handles there. I guess this is why Mrs Sander just put a bias to finish hers because when you hold it in one hand, you end up with a whopping 16 layers of fabric and that just too much. So I'll be making lighter versions in the future, heck, given the opportunity, I might even make a leather one!

As all of you know, I am a participant in Me-Made-June, but I won't talk about it much here unless it involves wearing a garment that hasn't been blogged about already. If you really love sewing as I do, you should check out the action because The MMJ girls are rocking big time!
I will keep the new schedule for a little while, to see what I can come up with. Next up is a dress refashion for me.

Commencer une expérience de productivité pendant la semaine où JrC fait le pont, c'était pas super brillant.
J'ai travaillé sur tous les projets coupés lundi et j'ai même réussi à en finir quelques uns, principalement des sacs à main. J'ai fini 2 VeryPurplePerson Reversible, 1 sac bleu en jean and 3 sacs inspirés par le sac Market Bag de Jil Sander.
J'ai passé tellement de temps à regarder les rayures de Mme Sander que je suis tombée sur ses sacs. Ces "pochons" transcendent l'omniprésence de leur version plastique et il m'en fallait au moins un!

J'ai fait les premiers avec des drapeaux promotionnels qui allaient passer à la poubelle. Ce sont des grands sacs, pas format marché, plutôt format supermarché, très utiles pour transporter de la bière mais sans l'élégance du plus petit que j'ai doublé pour faire plus joli.

Plus joli, mais plus épais aussi quand on le porte dans une main, on a 16 épaisseurs de tissu, c'est beaucoup trop. Je crois que c'est pour ça qu'ils l'ont simplement fini avec un biais chez Mme Sander. J'en ferai donc des version plus light la prochaine fois, peut-être même une version cuir si l'occasion se présente.
Si vous voulez vous en faire un, j'ai trouvé le tutoriel (anglais) chez Style Hurricane où il y a plein d'exemples avec des matières diverses et variées.
Comme vous le savez, je participe à Me-Made-June, mais j'en parlerai pas des masses ici, sauf si les vêtements n'ont pas fait l'objet d'un billet, mais, vraiment, allez y faire un tour, les filles MMJ sont géniales!
Je vais garder les nouveaux horaires pour un petit moment, ça à l'air de marcher et j'ai une petite robe chinée à refaire pour moi cette fois.

The Sewing Productivity Experiment

I don't have enough sewing time.

I am doing a summer dress refashion for Me-Made-June-2011 and I was looking for an interesting bodice in my pattern stash. Isn't this lovely? I love the draping detail on the skirt.

It makes me want to make it and sip dry martinis whilst being entertained by men in sharkskin suits in a hotel bar. Have I been watching too much Mad Men you think?

Isn't it sad that I never made the time to make it? 

Spurred by Tilly's sewing productivity series, I have decided that I would do a little experiment of my own. I have a couple of projects on the back burner as well as a couple of special requests and if I want everything finished before July, I need to sew up a storm. I will, therefore, interrupt my regular morning schedule and sew Monday through Friday, from 9 to 12, which is my biggest stretch of time available. In the afternoon I'll do the other Mom-house-web-procrastinating-programming-blog stuff and I'll crochet doilies at night, in front of the tv.

At the end of the week I'll tell you what was made.

L'Expérimentation Couturière

J'ai pas assez de temps pour coudre.

Je travaille sur le recyclage d'une petite robe d'été pour Me-Made-June-2011 et je cherchais un corsage intéressant dans mon tas de patrons. Regardez-moi ça, c'est pas joli ce petit détail sur la jupe, ça me donne envie d'aller dans un bar chic et de siroter des dry martinis en me faisant draguer pas des hommes en costard peau de requin. Je regarde trop Mad Men je crois.

C'est une peu triste que je n'aie pas trouvé du temps pour la faire.

Encouragée par le travail de Tilly sur la productivité, j'ai décidé d'expérimenter moi aussi et d'inverser ma journée. J'ai pas mal de projets qui trainent ainsi que des demandes spéciales et pour avoir tout fini début juillet, il faudra que je me démène. Je vais coudre tous les matins de 9h à midi, du lundi au vendredi, c'est la plus grosse tranche de temps que j'ai dans la journée. Je ferai le reste de mes activités de maman-maison-web-procrastination-programation-blog l'après-midi et je crochèterai des napperons le soir devant la télé.

Je vous dirai à la fin de la semaine comment ça s'est passé.
