It can happen to you too!

I've been on a pretty good streak sewing-wise this year but once in a while, it's good to remind yourself that things don't always turn out. Like that day, I thought I was being so clever and then Bam! Got hit over the head. 

I laughed, thought you would get a chuckle out of it and submitted this picture to Heather Mann's Craftfail's website. 

My seam ripper being my best friend I fixed it, but sometimes, something you thought would be stellar just isn't or you mangle things beyond repair and everything ends up in the trash. We sewicalists learn from our failure, wasted fabric and, being an optimistic lot, we start over again.

Ça arrive à tout le monde!

J'ai eu pas mal de succès en couture cette année, mais une fois de temps en temps, ça fait du bien d'être rappelée à l'ordre, ce ne sont pas tous nos projets qui sont couronnés de réussite. Comme ce jour fatidique où, pensant révolutionner le monde de la couture, Bam! Je me suis pris une claque.

J'ai rigolé et pensant faire rigoler les copines, j'ai envoyé la photo au site Craftfail de Heather Mann.

Mon découd-vite est mon meilleur ami et j'ai pu réparer ma bourde mais parfois je passe le seuil du sauvetage et ça passe direct par la case poubelle ou "mon truc révolutionnaire qui va changer la face du monde" ne l'est pas. Heureusement, nous, couturiers et couturières, apprenons de nos erreurs, de notre tissu gâché et, optimistes de nature, démarrons de nouveaux projets.

Heather's friendly reminder that things don't always go as planned came out the same week as my book and I thought it very timely (I'm in the book p.31). A little humility goes a long way. 

Most of the book is about food and crafting misshaps, but we can relate to that too right? Laugh about it and start over again.

Le rappel amical de Heather que les choses ne sont pas toujours aussi réussies qu'on le voudrait (je suis dans son livre p.31) est sorti la même semaine que mon livre et est tombé à point pour me rappeler de rester humble. 

La majorité du bouquin concerne des bourdes de cuisine et de bricolage mais on peut parfaitement s'identifier non? En rire un peu et recommencer.

She is into photography, so I'm pretty sure she'll use it. Andrea and I share the love for Liberty Nike sneakers (I just ordered another pair yesterday) and Ikea fabric. I'll send Bérénice a little consolation surprise too.

Andrea aime la photographie, je suis certaine qu'elle va l'utiliser. Andrea et moi adorons les Nike Liberty (j'en ai commandé une autre paire hier) et le tissu Ikea. 

Je vais aussi envoyer une petite surprise de consolation à Bérénice.

The Winners / Les Gagnantes

One of the thing I want to try to do, this is by no means a resolution as I can't keep those, is to use my scraps right away instead of sitting on them for a gazillion years and feeling totally overwhelmed by them. 

So, as soon as I finished the red dress, I went hunting for a cheap t-shirt pattern and decided to try out the Lekala free top pattern. Lekala is so enticing, it's very cheap and they promise to send you a made to measure pattern, it IS a seamstress' wet dream. 

I barely had enough fabric to make this, hence the cute cap sleeves and this version here is with absolutely no fitting whatsoever, no pressing either for that matter and still, it looks pretty good. It fits weird under the breast, this might be a wrong bra issue, the bottom part is a little loose at the front, but this might have been because I was sitting down at the computer when I took my measurements (duh!). 

I did think that this top was not my style, but I like it. I can totally envision doing a couple of t-shirt refashions with some light tweaking so I will be hanging on to the pattern. I might even order more from them as I find some of their designs quite inspiring but next time I'll give them some good measurements.

Une des chose que je veux essayer de faire, ceci n'est pas une résolution je ne les garde jamais, est d'utiliser mes restes rapidement au lieu de les garder pour pendant des millions d'années et de me sentir dépassée.

Dès que j'ai fini ma robe rouge, je me suis mise à la recherche d'un patron pas cher et j'ai décidé d'essayer un patron gratuit de chez Lekala. Le concept chez Lekala est très séduisant, vous envoyez vos mesures et ils vous envoient un patron vraiment pas cher à votre taille, le St-Graal pour une couturière.

Je n'avais pas tout à fait assez de tissu, d'ou les jolies petites manches courtes, et je vous présente le patron tel quel, sans retouches ni repassage. C'est un peu bizarre sous la poitrine, c'est peut-être un problème de soutien-gorge, et la partie basse est un peu large mais je n'avais qu'à prendre mes mesures comme il faut, pas assise devant l'ordinateur!

Je pensais pas que c'était mon style, mais je l'aime. J'me vois bien faire du recyclage de t-shirt avec ce patron alors je vais le garder et lui faire de très légères modifications. Je vais peut-être même en commander d'autre, certains de leurs modèles sont très inspirants, mais la prochaine fois, je vais leur donner de vraies mesures.

Clearing House Giveaway

There is not much sewing going on here because I am in the process of moving furniture around to make way for a sewing space where, you know, my sewing machine would stay where it is. I am quite excited by that prospect and both Mr and Jr CarmencitaB are quite happy that the dining/homework/sewing/crafting table will not be squatted anymore by notions and fabric for weeks on end.

When you move your house around, you discover hidden piles of "to be dealt with later" stuff which I am slowly going through. I am cutting magazine pages with nifty couture details and inspiration, making a scrapbook for Jr and generally getting rid of clutter and stuff that pick up dust ( I hate dusting!).

This t-shirt is waiting to be refashioned and I might just do that this week, a quick reward to myself for being such a good girl. I actually picked up 3 of them in a garbage bag, they are not in pristine condition, they have sweat stains and need to be worked on but, if you are inspired and want one for refashioning, tell me what you'd do with it in the comments, I'll send you one.
