I love tweed.
I love cutting it, matching it, sewing it, I love the smell when I iron it, I love to fondle handle it and I do have a tweed fairy, because I keep finding great tweed yardage for naught at the local goodwill. I don't wear much of it so I mostly sew it for others.
This hunting vest is for Alexis, a friend of Jean-Louis the austringer.

J'aime le couper, l'aligner, le coudre, j'aime son odeur quand je le repasse, j'aime le toucher et j'ai même une fée du tweed parce j'en trouve tout le temps chez Emaüs pour presque rien. Je n'en porte pas beaucoup alors je le couds pour les autres.
Cette veste de chasse est pour Alexis, un ami de Jean-Louis l'aiglier.
I have tried several methods for cutting checks over the years and my favorite which is also the quickest by the way is to cut single layer just like the Selfish Seamstress does (wherefore art thou, we miss you!). Just remember to buy a lot more fabric.

J'ai essayé beaucoup de méthodes pour couper le carreauté (québécois pour à carreaux) ces dernières années et ma préférée et la plus rapide c'est celle de Selfish Seamstress (qu'est-ce qu'elle nous manque!) sur une épaisseur.
In a bit of serendipity, I did receive these special fork pins recommended by Suzan Khalje (Thank you Claudette!). By combining the pins and the way Janet Prey holds her fabric, I was able to get the best plaid matching results I have ever had. To make sure I wouldn't have to sort them out after, I made them a cute little tweed pincushion (Note to self : make another one for your silk pins).

Heureux hazard, j'ai reçu les épingles fourche recommandées par Suzan Khalje (merci Claudette!). En combinant les épingles et la manière dont Janet Prey tient son tissu, j'ai eu le meilleur alignement de carreaux jamais obtenu. Pour être certaine de ne pas avoir à trier mes épingles après, je leur ai même fait un joli petit coussin en tweed (Note pour moi : en faire un pour les épingles super fines).
I also managed the turn of cloth pretty well so all the facings are tucked safely inside and will stay there. I also faced the hem in the back for the same reason.
J'ai réussi à calculer l'épaisseur du tissu comme il faut, comme ça les parementures vont rester à l'intérieur. J'ai fait une parementure en bas du dos pour la même raison.
I have some doubts about the pockets. I used the pattern's pockets but Alexis is a small man so their proportion is off. Had I made them smaller, he would not have been able to use them. So, I decided that, considering all the trouble one has to go through to make the welts, they ought to be useful if not pretty!
I'm sending it today, I can't wait to see the pictures.

J'ai bien des doutes sur la taille des poches. J'ai utilisé celles du patron mais Alexis est un homme très svelte et en proportion au gilet, je les trouve grosses. Si je les avais fait plus petites, il n'aurait pas pu les utiliser alors, j'ai décidé que, si je faisais un effort pour lui faire de beaux passepoils, elles seraient utiles à défaut de jolies!
Je lui envoie aujourd'hui, j'ai hâte de voir les photos!
